Did you know?
Working with the neck lowered (long & low) strengthens the abdominal muscles and relaxes the top line.
Lactic Acid or Lactate is a by-product of anaerobic work. Lactate is thought to be one of the causes of muscular soreness and stiffness, 24 to 48 hours after an intense exercise bout. Lactic acid is sent from the muscle to the blood and is then removed from the blood by the liver. The process requires oxygen and is hastened by light work during recovery.
Buildup of lactic acid in the muscle cells causes muscle fatigue and possible cramps and/or tying up.
Warming down the horse after a workout helps remove lactate out of the muscle, minimizing soreness.
